Welcome to The Surprise Historical Society Site!
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT & FOUNDER
It has been one year since my first letter to the reader’s of this website. Since that time, the Surprise Historical Society has come closer to it’s goal of helping to establish the first Surprise Historical Photo Gallery to be housed in the Mayor’s Atrium at Surprise City Hall.
The Society’s Mission Statement is “to inspire the people of Surprise to be interested in the roots of the Community in which they live.” The Photo Gallery is just one step in this mission.
Our aspiration includes developing a link with the City’s educational institutions and allowing them to use the historical information and resources as tools in their educational projects.
We envision City and Gallery tours, lectures and community festivals to be an enlivening way to learn about Surprise’s history.
SHS is made of volunteer members who are interested in researching, preserving and sharing the history of Surprise.
We believe that a city’s heritage should be preserved in the face of growth and modernization to give people a sense of where they came from and to share this history with others who have come to make Surprise their home.
The public is always invited to our meetings which are currently held on the second Monday of each month, at Surprise City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Drive. City Clerk’s Conference Rooms, at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A Board Workshop is part of this time frame in order to hear the ideas and suggestions of those who attend.
Also, we invite you to join the Society whether or not you plan to be active. Your financial support would be most appreciated to further our cause. (See Membership Application).
Thank you.
